Fireworks, Food and Festivities!

24th November 2011

Queen Square was chock-a-block with people last night who came to see the Christmas Lights switched on by Fireman Sam, Panto Stars Linda Lusardi and Sam Kane and the man-of-the-moment Santa himself!

The mini food festival marquees around Prince Albert's Statue saw queues of folks buying hot dishes from Bella, Bilash, Cafe Rickshaw, Cosmo, Don Salvo and Wing Wah restaurants.  Marston's too had a marquee where their fabulous beer was on sale - and not one drunken person was to be seen.  Responsible drinkers have proved that this city can sell food and alcohol at street festivals as many other towns and cities do at this time of year.

The countdown to the fireworks took several attempts but it was worth the wait as the spectacle exploded into life from Beatties' roof top.  After this, the WV One team, who had been promoting the 'Win Christmas' campaign eventually battled through the leaving crowds to make their way for a well deserved curry at Anise Restaurant in School Street.  More on this in our next blog, suffice to say it was del-ic-ous!

Kim, Lucy and Marianne (Christmas Cowgirls!) promote the Win Christmas competition.
